I was wondering if someone can tell me how to get
java working on my system. I've downloaded the file
but it's not working. Can someone help? I have Windows
XP with Explorer 6.0 on my system.

Thanks, Mac

Make sure the file you are getting is a good one and for the *off-line*
installation. Installing it manually is the better choice IMO.

Some facts:
For several days, if not longer, the Sun Java download file was being
downloaded incomplete and corrupted. Installation couldn't complete and one
would receive an error message stating so. The file which is presently
available is fine and installs as it should have without the error message.

The corrupted file was: j2re-1_4_2_04-windows-i586-p-iftw.exe
Version: No version was listed
Size: 1,418,304 bytes
MD5: 38716DC4A958AF66E0A383C65A986D93

The present valid file is: j2re-1_4_2_05-windows-i586-p.exe
Version: 7.5.394.0
Size: 15,633,128 bytes
MD5: 9E45B81E30D74DF4B996379E78A7C22E

Your firewall could also be keeping it from running
properly. I had trouble with NIS keeping javascript from
running on sites that I was going to. I had to uninstall
it before I could view the sites with javascript on
them. I've since reinstalled NIS and have had no
problems so far......crossing my fingers :) hehe I hope
that this helps in some small way.
