I just got a pop up balloon to install Java on. I installed it. A
few seconds later, I was asked to install it again. I stopped the
install. This happen to anyone else?

That happens here sometimes when a prompt is hidden.

It takes more than a few seconds to install a complete new version of
Java. Go into Add/Remove Programs applet in Control Panel, uninstall
*all* versions of Java (you might have more than one), and download and
install just one version of Java.

Their system has been prone to that--you click the balloon and nothing
happens, you think you didn't click it so you click it again. It ends
up kicking off the update more than once.

That happens a lot. More importantly, it seems the most recent release
didn't really "fix" the security problems. Latest recommendations are
to just remove Java until it's really fixed. Anyone out there that can
explain all this?

Or you can "inactivate" Java instead of completely removing it, until such time the coast is clear (and as of today it is not). Probably a couple of months from now they'll have it completely fixed I imagine. So far, only one website has been inaccessible since I turned off Java, so, unlike Javascript, not every website uses Java.
