I went to a site and received a message that my browser wasn't set to
view the page. Something about not allowing Java. What is Java and
what does it do,can it be downloaded? Is it safe to use with all the
security problems.

Java is support for a particular programming language, for want of a longer
explanation.

Understand that because of a court decision Microsoft will stop all Java
support recommends that you use the Sun JRE.

It sounds like you have the java security set to high. Go to Tools, internet
options and go to security tab, then click custom level and check to see how
you have java set. I use med. security and have everything set to enable, you
may need to reboot to see any changes.

I'm have Visual J++ 6.0 professional edition that is 5 years old and want to
start using it now. I'm running it on my girlfriend's laptop, just to look at
at, and it doesnt load. I do have XP pro and 2000 on my computer, but as I
moved to a new flat havent got round to unpacking it yet.

My question is, can I use this old version on XP Pro SP2 edition?

Many thanks

Martin
