Java "Select to Activate" box/tool?

I have this "feature" on IE that appears in the form of a white box around
whatever java application my cursor is currently hovering over. The Alt text
reads: "Click to activate and use this control." I have no clue what this is.
It just appeared yesterday after I installed some Windows updates.

I really want to get rid of this as it not only looks horrible, but
basically requires me to click twice on anything Java that I wish to use. If
anyone can tell me what this is, and how to get rid of it I would be most
greatful.
