Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 3

Thank you Randy, Update went smooth i chose a different route to update:
Control Panel>Dbl click Java icon>update tab>update now>uncheck google
tool bar, google desktop>install> finish. Thanks for the heads up and i
just
checked yesterday and there was nothing. Ron
 
I've put this in on a few machines, so far.

Remember to remove the previous versions after installing the new one,
unless you are in a corporate environment where line of business apps may
require a specific Java version to be present to function.

This one trys to sell you on OpenOffice as a part of the install--the level
of advertising and attempts to push add-ins, etc, as part of security
patches from Adobe and Sun seems to be growing--not a good trend.
 
I've seen this offered by the update mechanism on at least 3 machines so
far--so the JRE is available--haven't tried looking for it at the site.

Randy, are you sure this is JRE - all I can see is a Java Development Kit (JDK) 6_3 - a
much 'heavier' beast than JRE?

Probably and likely is - unless you're a Java Developer, you do *not* need it.
Go the above URL and select the "offline" download of the _update_ only.
For an average user - (me) included, that is _all_ you need.

Hi guys, I just updated from 1.6.0.20 (update 2 )to 1.6.0.30 (update 3) Now
this being the third update to version 1.6 Bill would you be saying to
remove
update 2 or remove versions prior to 1.6. I would think that update 3 is a
patch and needs to work along with update 2 and the whole 1.6 version ? Ron
 
Each version stands alone--I would have only one version on a machine--the
latest--unless you have a known app that depends on a particular version.
In particular, the older the version, the more likely that vulnerabilities
might be exploited.
