[My system:
Windows XP + SP 2
PC-Cillin anti-virus
IE 6.0.29
Java JRE 1.5.0_02]

I start IE and go to this site:

http://futures.tradingcharts.com/menu.html

I scroll down and click on "daily" for any item, let's take corn, for
example. The new webpage shows 2 options: display graphic chart or java
chart. I click on java chart and it opens the final window.

At the bar in the bottom of the page it says "miniapplication epc02
loaded", it never continues to say "started" which I've noticed with
other java pages. In the big java box in the middle of the page it
shows the java coffee mug with a filled red bar below it. And nothing
happens. I now click on the "go back" button and then on the "go
forward" button to return to this webpage and have it load again. Same
result with 2 minor differences: the bar below the coffee mug is now
unfilled, and at the bottom of the screen it says "miniapplication
ascroll2 started".

I used to be able to view this webpage perfectly with my former
computer just 1 month ago, and its specs were the same as this one
(even the same PC-Cillin antivirus CD), the only thing I can't remember
is which version of Java it had, but there's a decent chance it was the
same as this computer.

One final example of the craziness of it all. I go here:

http://www.forex-markets.com/

At the bottom of the page I click "web-based FX charts". The new
web-page shows that coffee mug with the filled red bar below it. I have
to click the "go back" arrow and then "go forward" and this time the
page loads correctly and shows the bluish chart with the exchange rate
for the euro. Insane.

One final note. While I was writing this message I left the first link
open in another IE window. It had been there in the background for 10
minutes. And it just activated itself and decided to show me, for the
first time, the correct display instead of the coffee mug. Groan.

I have been looking all over the internet for answers. All tests tell
me my Java is working perfectly, even at java.com. I don't know what to
do. Please help me.

Hi,
Some possibilities:
Go to Internet Options> Security> Internet Zone, set it to Default.

Or, try the Internet Options> Security settings at
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/restricted.htm#Setting

Clear the IE cache. IE> Tools> Internet Options> General> Delete
files (and delete offline content when that dialog pops up) It's often
recommended that the TIF folder be kept at about 50 MB (Settings.)

Check any third-party security programs to see if one of them is blocking
scripts, scripting, active content. Norton Internet Security and a number of
other programs can be configured to block scripts.

Hope this helps,
Don
