A toolbar prompt stated updates were available. Upon clicking, the
Java(TM)Installer window popped up. The "coffee" has been "piping" into the
PC on screen for almost 40 minutes now. Should I do anything?

You don't have to. But the latest revisions of the Java Runtime
Enviroment often include patches and fixes.

It actually takes very little time to download and install the latest.
