Hi Wal :-)
does anyone know how to enable java in browser, IE vers 6
SP2, thanks

Download the Microsoft Java VM for Windows XP here
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com

Go to the Windows Update Site (Start/All Programs/Windows Update/Personalize
Windows Update/Enable the Windows Update Catalog. Save Settings. Select
Windows Update Catalog from the left hand pane/Select Find updates for
Microsoft Windows systems from the right hand pane/Select Windows XP/Search.
Select Critical Updates and Service Packs.
Select the March 4th Security Update as it contains Windows XP VM.

Or you can download it from one of these locations:

http://www.download.windowsupdate.c..._CD24D109B33421DB6728FBDC80C9F572EB7A3865.exe
or
http://ftp.uni-stuttgart.de/pub/systems/win95/fixes/VM/msjavx86.exe
or
ftp://ftp.uq.edu.au/mirror/microsoft/patches/winxp/javavm_3319_MIL_4275/MSJavx86.exe

You can test whether Java is working on your machine at the following sites:

http://www.pocoso.de/pocoso052.html
http://www.clan.lib.ri.us/clan/javatest.html (This one may be down)
http://www.fitwise.com/testjava.asp (both 1.0 and 1.1 and what's installed)
http://coglab.wadsworth.com/support/browsercheck.html
http://www.ces.clemson.edu/webct/browser_detect.html

You might also try installing the Windows Script 5.6 for Windows 2000 and XP
if you have not already done so. The install includes a new jscript.dl

Update your script engine. For 2000 and XP go to

Sometimes there's a corrupt file in the cache and one must go to Tools |
Internet Options and click Delete Files.

Start>Run>Regsvr32 vbscript.dll

Start>Run>Regsvr32 jscript.dll

(WinXP users who have problems with 2a and 2b, see

If these steps do not resolve your problem, please post back to this thread
with the details and any error messages.

Hope this helps

Hi Peter :-)
A question...I have both the MSJVM and Sun JRE1.4.2.05 installed,
which is better, Sun I assume?

It's my understanding that both are about the same, Sun Java being the equal
of the
MS VM. It might often depend on the website, but, with the JavaScript issue
with SP2 being such a troublsome one at this point, and in view of the fact
that MS will no longer be supporting Java in the not so distant future, I'd
say Sun JRE is a better move to make at this point.

Here's some information on these two programs courtesy of Jim Byrd:
~~~~~~~~~
There is good information concerning all aspects of the Java situation here:
http://www.javatester.org/installing.html
Be aware, however, that after Dec 31, 2007, MS will apparently no longer be
distributing Java or providing any support for Java including security
fixes. See here: http://www.microsoft.com/mscorp/java/ so you might want
to start thinking about the future.
Both Java VM's can co-exist on your machine quite nicely. Just select which
one you want to use in Tools|Internet Options|Advanced and restart all IE
browsers. Here, courtesy of Mitch Gallant, MVP Security, is a tiny utility
which allows you to toggle and view status of your current Java VM vendor
associated with IE:
http://www.jensign.com/JavaScience/SelectIEJVM/index.html
A note from Mitch Gallant:
"One note about the JVM Selector utility: If/when you install a new
version of Sun J2SE, you need to manually select to have Sun JVM as default
JVM for IE (in install), or after install via the JavaPlugin control panel.
This generates the necessary win32 registry entries, which must be present
for the utility to know about JavaPlugin. After that, the utility should
work properly."
Having both on your system poses no problems, and you can decide which one
works best for you based upon the various websites you go to. Others may
have a different preference based upon their person browsing experiences. I
have them both.
Hope this helps
