Java applets will not run

I have installed the latest Sun java update into my Windows XP SP2 home
computer and have enabled Sun Java and "scripting of applets" in IE 6.0, yet
java fails to load when called upon. I tried opening up the same web pages
using Firefox 2.0 and the java loaded and worked just fine. I presume the
problem must be with IE 6.0 and not the java installation itself. How can I
get java up and running on IE 6.0?

(Do the opposite here, of course)

In IE - Tools...Internet Options...Advanced tab, make sure the box there for
Java is checked.

Just to give you an idea of what is happening, here are 3 java-enabled web
pages that do not work properly in IE 6.0 but work fine when opened up using
Firefox 2.0.
