I am unable to play Yahoo! games. The page appears to be loading and it says
cick here if applet fails to load in 3 minutes. It shows done at the bottom
of the screen and a red x appears in the top left corner. I click the link
and it just repeats the same actions again. I have been to Sun Java's
website and dowloaded JRE, cleared my cache, lowered security settings in my
IE6 browser, and I am wits end.
I am using Windows XP Home Edition 2002 Service Pack 1.

Please help.

Hi,

The following should prove to be of use to you:

http://www.java.com/en/download/help/redximage.jsp
Red X image displayed where the applet should be, applets won't run

You may also wish to consider the following site if the above does not serve to
help you,

Best regards,

If you have further questions or comments, do not hesitate to ask,

I tried the suggestions from the Java website and the applet still won't
load. I do not have proxies or firewalls(I am using a home pc on dsl.), nor
do I have internet security installed preventing scripts. I have also tried
info in Microsoft's Article 283807 by changing my IE 6 language settings to
Western Europe (Windows) from UTF Code and I modified the default in the
registry to c_1252.nls, rebooted and the "red x" still appears.

Also when I right click on the "red x" placeholder and select properties the
type shows html document and the address includes applet.html but ends with
"...=no" as far as it shows. "Note: This is a Yahoo games window that host
the game room with chat capabilities."

Hi,

Specific to Yahoo! Games is the following:

http://www.java.com/en/download/help/yahoo.jsp

Try following the above instructions. Namely, ensure you have downloaded the
latest version:

http://www.java.com/en/download/windows_automatic.jsp

Best regards,

Altrus

Altrus:
Just wanted to let you know my problem has been fixed! I had already taken
the steps you suggested, but what worked was I emailed Yahoo! Games and they
replied back stating to delete temporary internet files. The catch is you
must do it from the control panel with all browser windows closed. Then I
right clicked on the start button and explored the temporary internet files
and found Yahoo! Games and deleted it. Once I completely shutdown my pc (as
before I had been just rebooting), I was able to get into the Yahoo! Games
room.
I also noticed that when I checked the internet options, the Advanced tab
showed another component that it recently had not. I had dowloaded JRE from
Java's website 6 days ago and it showed there. But what didn't immediately
show up was the JIT compiler section.

Just to let you know.

Thanks for all your help.

Don't run the MS JIT compiler and the Sun JRE at the same time. Uncheck one
or the other.
