Java and IE7

Hello, All!

I don't seem to visit many websites that use Java but I think
the problem arose after I updated from IE6. A new website brings
up a message 'Java Runtime Environment could not be loaded.' It
does not seem to make much difference to my use of the site but,
when I shutdown IE7, a panel appears with the usual clonking
sound saying

'The instruction at "0x2530183' referenced memory at
'0x8a55ade9'.
The memory could not be "read."
Click on OK to terminate the program'

Is "the program" mentioned Java and has anyone else noticed the
problem? I have tried to search for solutions but I have not
found one that works and I have even tried, unsuccessfully, to
reinstall Java.

Due to a court judgement, Microsoft is not allowed to distribute Java.

I have tried a number of the various prescriptions mentioned but
with no change. I wonder if I should completely delete Java and
re-install?

That is *exactly* what you should do:

Java Downloads for All Operating Systems
Recommended Version 6 Update 2

http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

I would recommend downloading the offline version:

Windows XP/Vista/2000/2003 Offline filesize: 13.90 MB
http://javadl.sun.com/webapps/download/AutoDL?BundleId=11291

Instructions:
http://www.java.com/en/download/help/6000010400.xml

Personally, I wouldn't install either of the Google add-ons.

I did remove all the Java files and went back to the web page.
There are now no error messages and the page seems to work fine.
I think I will leave off re-installing Java until there seems to
be a need.

A bit bemused perhaps but we shall see!

Thanks!
