JAVA and annoying popups

I have a SOHO network with two computers running Win XP.
The gateway computer has had all MS updates installed,
the client computer has had none.

The gateway computer does not display Java applets, the
client computer displays them perfectly.

The gateway computer receives messenger popups a dozen
times each day from www.messagedestroyer.com,
www.stopit.biz, www.endmessages.com, and others. The
client computer does not. The messages all encourage you
to purchase new software to prevent messenger popup
advertising, at a small price.

Any suggestions or comments why the two computers behave
differently?

Thanks!

The gateway computer is probably missing the Java component or it is not
configured. Check here:

The gateway computer probably has the Messenger service enabled, or the
client computer has a popup blocker installed. You can disable Messenger in
the Control Panel.
