J2EE Jain vs .NET for Telecom Development

Hi,

The telecom company I'm working for is actually deciding to go through .NET
or J2EE with Jain.
I'd like to convince my boss .NET is the good solution, but I don't know
what Jain is, so it's a little hard ;-)
I read some stuffs at http://java.sun.com/products/jain/ and Jain looks
great for what we do here (SS7, SIP, SLEE, Parlay...) and seems exactly what
we need!

So what is the .NET equivalent to all theses Jain features?
What's the best solution?
- Ease of development
- Speed
- Reliability
- ...
(I don't need a J2EE vs .NET comparison, there's already a lot of post about
it, but just Jain vs ...?...)

Sebastien

You would need to be more specific as to what features you are refering too. If you have a specific problem to address I would be happy to look into that, however I cannot make
broad comparisons on technologies not supported by us...

Hi Scot,

Thank you for your answer.
I don't have a specific problem. My telecom company is just deciding what
technology to use (Java or .NET). I don't really need a comparison, but I'm
looking for the Jain equivalent in .NET.
I know MS doesn't support theses telecom technologies. MS doesn't support
Oracle, but .NET provides APIs to target Oracle db, isn't it?

Jain seems the exact APIs we need. (see http://java.sun.com/products/jain/)

"The JAIN APIs are a set of Java technology based APIs which enable the
rapid development of Next Generation telecom products and services"

"The objective of the JAIN initiative is to create an open value chain from
3rd-party service providers, facility-based service providers, telecom
providers, and network equipment providers to telecom, consumer and computer
equipment manufacturers."

So I was just wondering if Microsoft provides APIs to target the telecom
market, and technologies such as INAP, SIP, SLEE, IN Services...
In fact I don't think MS provides such APIs, I already looked for in google
newsgroup and nothing found.
So I think MS is just loosing the whole telecom market, that's it. And as
Sunil TG answered my post: ".NET rocks the world" ... hum... .NET sucks
here!

So, do you think MS has plan to provides such APIs?

Sebastien

PS: I'm a convinced .NET developer, I'm not glad of the decision of my
company to use .NET, and maybe I should start finding another job!

Actually the only Oracle support are the DataProviders, Oracle provides a set of objects that works with VB6, How well they work through Interop or if Oracle is planning to create
any classes for >Net I do not know. As far as Telecom specific classes, I do not know of any but they are not listed as being specifice (What does Telecom need that other
industries do not from a programming tool?) This might be something you could suggest to them at the product feedback site (http://register.microsoft.com/mswish/suggestion.asp)

Now just because there is nothing that says 'for telecom' in the documentation, does not mean it is not there. If you have specific classes that Jain has and know what they do, there
may in fact be classes in the framework that are funtionally equivilant, but there are several thousand classes in the framework and wtithout narrowing it down a bit it would be hard
to find them..
