I have a Windows 2003 Server network with 2000/XP workstations. I have a
user who wants a specific file in a shared folder to be R/W for one user
while R-only for another.

Is there a way to allow permissions to the .mdb file as noted above?

My understanding is that the share owner wants access only to the one
particular file as opposed to R-only access to all the other files in the
share.

You can not successfully use Windows folder & file permissions, to
control access to an Access mdb file.

You could do it using Access user-level security, but that is quite an
undertaking, if you've never done it before.

I decided to place the DB in a subfolder within the user's share and create a
separate sharename and modify the permissions within the new share. It
worked.
