J-542A Motherboard

Hi,

I have a J-542A Motherboard and I have recently purchased 256 MEG( 1 x
168pin DIMM). The problem is that only 128 MEG is being registered/counted
by the computer, I cant understand this.

My OS is Windows XP Pro.

Is this 256MB one-sided with eight chips? If so, it uses eight 32Mx8(256Mbit)
chips. Your motherboard only supports chip densities up to 128Mbit. You
should get a 256MB DIMM that has sixteen 16Mx8(128Mbit) chips.
