Hello All,

I have been using remote desktop for a few years and have never seen
anything like this before. When I try to connect to any computer on the
network using Remote Desktop I get the following error message: "The client
could not connect to the remote computer. Remote connections might not be
enabled or the computer might be too busy to accept new connections. Please
try connecting again later..." I checked one of the XP Pro hosts and it is
setup as it should be. I am able to ping the computer without any kind of
problem. I can browse it's folders or connect to eventvwr, regedit, etc. or
whatever I want to do. I just can't remote desktop.

If anyone has any suggestions that would be MUCH APPRECIATED!

Thanks for your time.

Thanks very much for the information, Al. All machines that I query produce
the the same result shown below. I don't believe it's anything running on the
machines themselves or at least anything typical. Do you have any suggestions
on what might be causing this?

TCP port 3389 (unknown service): NOT LISTENING
portqry.exe -n 10.17.1.192 -e 3389 -p TCP exits with return code 0x00000001.

Thanks again.

The port is not showing as listening when I run a netstat -a command. Do you
know how I can force this port to listen? All the settings for remote desktop
should be correct.

Is the Terminal Server service started and set to automatic?

It was started but not set to automatic. I changed the setting to automatic
but this did not resolve the problem.

Something is blocking RDP from listening. Are you running any type of
personal security software like NAV worm protection or Onecare Live or
something similar?

They are running a Norton AV personal firewall on all machines in the domain
but I disabled it on the computer I'm testing. I have looked for any similar
software but I don't see anything else on this machine. Since this is
happening on all machines in the domain I checked to see if remote desktop
was disabled in group policy but it was not.

Thanks!

Hi: I have seen this twice before, and it happened when another user using
the same IP address I was using to remote into. Only one user could be
logged in at a time. You will also receive this error if the remote machine
is turned off. Hope this helps.
