I've lost my CD and DVD drives

I have a Sony VAIO machine, running Win-XP. I had
difficulty installing a memory card reader and hooking up
a camcorder. Those problems were solved. Somewhere in the
process, however, my CD-ROM and CD/DVD-R/RW drives
disappeared from MY COMPUTER and WINDOWS EXPLORER.
Computer Management/Device Manager shows both drives, but
each has an exclamation-point-on-yellow-background marker
on it. Following the HELP instructions leads nowhere; the
instructions repeatedly come to deadends, with the next
step just not there.
I need to solve this; I'm busy on a project (of course!)
and need a solution soonest!

What are we going to do to get M$ to solve this?
It's way too common!
.
I agree!! I posted a message in the past about this same
occurence...but with my CD-ROM AND my DVD-ROM drives!!!
It's happened almost a dozen times now since i have XP and
it's not my favourite time when it does happen. I found
that all you have to do is keep rebooting...sometimes up
to 3 dozen times!!!! Micro$oft is a tyrant and XP is the
cash crop!!!...If anyone knows how to solve my problem any
other way please let me know
