Ive just Installed the latest windows update and....

after it saw it downloaded (by self) the PC turned itself
off and when i try to reboot this machine the monitor
doesn't respond. I can hear the PC working but the monitor
is dead. Please can anyone help.

Try this...
Turn off the monitor, using its pushbutton - and turn off the PC.

Turn on the PC. Once it has rebooted, turn the monitor back on.

monitor does come up, when windows tries to load i get the
error >>
File is missing or corrupt:
<Windows root>\system32\hal.dll

even when i try to get into the XP bootable disk, or even
a floppy disk which is bootable, i keep getting error
messages saying that something or other is missing.

coincidence, or is windows update to blame? coz something
has screwed up my bios + sys reg.
