Well I've done it now......working with an email message which refuses to
delete, I've followed someone's directions and managed to delete all of my
mail message database. I'm lucky enough to have a backup on a Western
Digital external Hard drive. Only problem is, I don't know how to do a
restore of just that database....can anyone help?

Please, please please

Tom

Steve,

Thanks for your reply. I'll check it out, but I'm so mixed up right now I
don't know what I've deleted and what I haven't. I do know that all of my
'contacts' list and that sort of thing remains ok, it's just the actual
messages in each folder are no where to be found.

I followed the instructions presented by Frank Saunders, MS-MVP OE/WM on
this list and that's what got me in trouble because they wiped out all of my
email folders. I somehow figured out how to straighten that out except for
the messages contained in those folders. I'm not blaming him for my
problems...my problems originated from my own ignorance about all of this. I
also did a system restore but that didn't help either.

Anyway, thanks for your suggestion I'll follow up on it before trying to use
by external hard drive backup.

From Frank Saunders advice, I too have lost WindowsMail.MSMessageStore and
my emails no longer save and everytime I start Windows Mail I get a new
recovered messages folder which is really annoying. Can any tell me how to
download this file or restore my Windows Mail back to how it was. I have
found my missing emails by doing a search and saving that search but can't
get them back into my mail program.

I would move everything under the message store directory to a subdirectory
under Documents. That will start WinMail fresh. Then you can either import
the messages from the moved store or you can drag the eml files from it
overtop a WinMail message list and then drop them to incorporate them into
the current store.

Also see www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3 to help prevent corruption.

I'm in the same boat. It all started with an email that would not be
deleted. Now I've lost all my emails it seems. My message store is empty,
so I'm wondering what to do next if there is anything.
