I used Yahoo for my search engine, and recently my browser got hijacked and
almost every search sends me to a 3rd party page, much like Xupiter used to.
I've tried spyware removals, removing IE and reinstalling, nothing works.
Any ideas?

Hi Sweet,

Make sure you have checked for updates before running your spyware/malware
removal tools, so that you are sure they have the most uptodate lists.

Failing that the Yahoo toolbar hijacks the IE SearchHook (and it appears
that something else has hijacked the Yahoo searchHook)

First up you need to disable the Yahoo toolbar. Tools>Internet Options -
Advanced tab - uncheck 'Enable third-party browser extensions'

Download and save the registry fix from

http://www.iecustomizer.com/?url=SearchHookFixDownload.asp

and run it to apply the registry changes...

This should fix the search hijacking, but if you re-enable the Yahoo toolbar
it will install its own searchhook and you may be back to square-one.
However even though you have disabled the yahoo toolbar the search
preferences for the Yahoo Search Provider should still be intact.

Regards.

When all else fails, HijackThis v1.99.1
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware. **Post

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA) computer repair shop.

Hello ssb,
Yes - do nothing but follow the 'BEAR', for clear step by step help to solve
your problem.
If you do not understand the 'registry' then do nothing to it nor let any
prog do it for you.
Leave that to the experts in whichever site you post your hijackthis log.
Do not try and do this quickly - it will take time to read through the
various links given - at least a day if your tech knowledge is as poor as
mine.
Good luck
