I left this newsgroup some months ago cos it appeared to be full of
8-year-old kids who enjoy arguing with each other, and idiots who try and
peddle their preferred OS in the group supposedly for Vista support/help
(who know who you are Alias).

Well I dropped in today, and guess what? It's still full of the same
8-year-old kids arguing with each other, and the same idiot still trying to
peddle the same OS in the group.

Some things never change. Maybe I'll come back in a year's time (but
probably won't cos by then I'll be using Windows 7).

Good people DO care that this news group has gone down the toilet! It is
such a shame.

Don't let the screen door hit you on the ass on your way out. Just FYI.

For the most part you can avoid them. Frank has tied up Alias's conversation
for, what, years now?

But there's not that much to talk about here anyway as this is a
peer-to-peer tech support group for Windows. What do you want to say, you
like Windows? That great conversation just isn't here, nor ever will be. The
OS and Browser wars are dull - let's face it - people use what they want and
you can jump up and down all day and it won't change a thing.

One of the best newsgroups I read for computer talk was a PGP newgroup that
was active a few years back. You had some very knowledgeable people discuss
encryption, math, governments, security, and computers and computing in
general. You could ask what something meant and they would tell you too. But
then the newsgroups got poisoned with inordinate amounts of spamming and
things became untenable. Around the same time, my ISP - Rogers Cable -
dropped Usenet and since I don't have a Usenet subscription (e.g. Giganews),
I do not know the state of affairs of Usenet today. I only get this group
because I log onto the Microsoft servers directly.

That it's not an exclusive stomping ground for MVP's to SPAM their
websites in?

That "trolls" have flame wars here?
The flame wars stay in particular types of threads...they can easily be
ignored, though for entertainment they are more fun to read.

Users are still able to get questions answered.
Let's not be babies here.

If users subscribe to the msnews server, they don't see half of these post.
It's really not that bad.

Relax a little.
It's just typed words.

I agree, BUT. . .

there is a very, very long list of names of intelligent and helpful
people who DO NOT bother to contribute here anymore. That IS a shame.

BTW, save the flames. I am also checking out (for the 3rd time).

A good newsreader and liberal use of killfiles makes things quite
nice.

I rarely see the bleeping idiots like Alias, kevpan, Frank, Yanaire
(and all permutations), Spankey (and all permutations) and the people
who can't control themselves and MUST reply to them.

When I do see them, it's when someone not in my killfile replies to
them or starts a thread about one of them. They are put on "monitor"
and are killfiled when they do it again.

What I dislike enormously is when Spankey (and all permutations) including when he
uses Kevpan makes fun of the real Kevpan (Kevin) who is mentally handicapped from
injuries received serving our country. Nobody in that situation deserves that. These
are sick people without any conscience or respect towards others

The good part with that is that Frank and spanky will not be there.
The bad part with that, is that when people express their anger and
disgust for Microsoft products the posts will quickly be erased.

Maybe MS will create microsoft.public.windows.idiots.rant.here

That crap doesn't belong in a support group.

He may not know that. I mean, he's a newsgroup a-hole, but it's just
an act. Perhaps if he's aware, he will have more respect.

Wow.
If what goes on here bothers you, I can't imagine you can take the real
world.
The land of the thin skinned, and the home of the politically correct.

Geez, for one I can agree with you, even if you are a perpetual
duckhead.

Killfiles are for weenies. If you don't want to read someone's posts,
restrain yourself. If you haven't got that much willpower then you
will have much bigger problems succeeding in life.
What bothers me is 4 cartons of cigarettes cost me $135.00.
$95.00 of that is federal and state taxes.
And, at the end of the sale, another $12.00 in sales tax is tacked on for
good measure.

So stop smoking, moron. You really are a duckhead.

Good luck in your quest for Newsgroup Utopia

Good luck in your quest for Newsgroup Utopia

LOL.

To the OP:

I see each tread as a TV channel and my mouse is a remote control, so I have
a full control on what/when to read/reply and if I want to monitor a tread.
I don't even need to use "block" or "killfile" :)

Calling names is bad, but what would be even worse?

1. Acting like a professional but persistently giving incorrect information
when it comes to user's license right,

2. People wearing a professional tag but constantly engaging in trash talk,

3. Trying to stop complaints or rants just because one doesn't like it.
Trained professional and support all know that this is very common, and if
one removes the emotion part, one might find valuable improvement
opportunities in a complaint even it's from your competitors :).

Many people like Windows 7, and how could we get it without people raising
complaints and criticisms? Ass-kisser is one of those "enemies within".

People always said that there is no perfect product (which is true), but if
they really believed what they said, why is it so difficult to face
criticisms provided we also a powerful "remote control"? :)

PS: It's easier to change us than expecting others to change, and that is
some people would call - to lead by example. :)

Complaining is one thing and doing better is still another.

First of all, I didn't know about Kevin being injured serving our country.
I just thought he was SLOW. If you look at his posts, you would just think
he is just a right wing nut job so he got what he deserved.

Where do you draw the line at making fun of the posts? When he talks about
boycotting Microsoft, when he posts his political views? Just because he
was injured are we suppose to ignore them?

Kevin must take some responsibility for his actions. Maybe he should stay
on topic but since he doesn't he opens himself up to what he gets back. He
waffles between Linux and Windows almost on a daily basis. It gets
annoying.

Maybe a little less insulting of him personally is due but he is not
completely innocent. Even if he was injured serving our country.

He may not know that. I mean, he's a newsgroup a-hole, but it's just

If he shows respect then he will get respect.

They were $25/cartoon until 6 months ago they passed a tax increase.
I know its cheap compared to most places.
Its one of those products where 80% of the cost is taxes.
Really burns me up.

They pick on smokers all the time.

They need to go after fat people once in a while.

Cripes, I hope the price of .357 magnums doesn't go up again. I'll have to
break out my presses and start rolling my own again. Seen the price of
smokless and lead these days?
