Hi,

I downloaded the latest iTunes installer, which obviously comes with all the
QuickTime stuff I will never use. Unfortunately, after having copied all the
iTunes files the installer try to install the latest QuickTime package and
the installation fails *systematically* :

---------------------------
iTunes - InstallShield Wizard
---------------------------
QuickTime installation failed:

Error Code : -3
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

After having displayed this dialog box the installation is halted and when I
try to run iTunes I get the following error :

---------------------------
iTunes
---------------------------
iTunes cannot run because some of its required files are missing. Please
reinstall iTunes.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

I tried to uninstall/reinstall iTunes but nothing changed.

Did someone experience the same problem ? What can I do in order to run this
f*** iTunes ?... It's driving me nuts !!

Best regards,

A.R.

I am having this exact same problem, and have been trying to resolve it for a
couple of weeks. I just now came across your question, but I do not see a
solution that anyone has provided yet. I have successfully been using
iTunes for years, and have never had a problem until I recently tried to
install this update.

Any help from anyone would sure be appreciated!!!
Thanks!!!

I had the same problem. Very frustrating. But here is how you fix it:
Uninstall Quicktime manually through add/delete programs
Reinstall Quicktime from the Itunes website (somehow this does not work when
you do it in the itunes + quicktime bundle). Use the following link:
http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/quicktime703.html

Once you reinstally Quicktime, your itunes should work perfectly.

I'm having the same dam problem. I spoke to a hand full of people who are
having the same issue.

I have tried everything under the sun. What is wrong with the
Quicktime install? I have had the following error codes:

Error Code: -3

1603

1722

I've exhausted the methods to fix these that I've found on the web.
Has anyone figured this one out?

yes i am having the same trouble too and i am getting fed up as well because
i can not add no more music to my ipod

It's probably more constructive to go to the Apple iPod forums, or
contact their product support. It's their hardware and software.

Hi all,

I took the advise to download the Quicktime download from their site
and iTunes now starts up Ok.

This is the order I run things,
1. Installed Service Pack 2 onto Windows XP.
2. Removed any versions of iPod for Windows on the machine, they didn't
all want to come off.
3. Installed from the CD that came with the iPod Nano.
4. Tried to startup iTunes and got the error message.
5. Installed QuickTime from version at
www.apple.com/support/downloads/quicktime703.html and clicked on the
"Windows Version http:" link
6. Started up iTunes, no more message and iTunes started up
sucessfully.

Good Luck.

Itunes Install Problem - "cannot install because some required files are missing"

If you recieved the above message when trying to boot iTunes you may want to try installing an older version of the program. It worked for me. I tried everything suggested on the iTunes/Quicktime support pages and kept getting the same error message. I think it happened when I updated my Quicktime to the latest version. I won't make that mistake again. Anyway, I have iTunes back up and running fine again, albeit, a version about 3 generations back version 7.4.2.1 - if you want to try this fix you have to do a thorough delete of all the previous versions of iTunes and Quicktime. You may first want to go to the support site http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93976 and follow all the steps under the general troubleshooting section. Maybe one of these fixes will work. They didn't for me. If not, follow the instructions to completely remove the software and then try the site below to download an older version.

This worked for me and if it does for you I would advise that you turn of the automatic updates when you reinstall. Hope this helps.
