Can someone help. I went to back up my iTunes and the driver was deleted, the
box for drivers is completely blank. So I went to Windows Update and I have
the current driver. So I found a "fix-it" option and used that. Well that
made things worse. Now when I go into iTunes (or even as soon as I log-in on
my computer, I get the following pop-up:

"Warning: The registry settings used by the iTunes driver for importing and
burning CD's and DVD's are missing. This can happen as a result of installing
other CD burning software. Please re-install iTunes"

Well I went to the control panel and clicked the "re-install/repair iTunes"
and still nothing. And to top it off I didn't install any new software for
burning CD's. I've always used iTunes. I am so lost so any suggestions would
be great.

Are there any groups that discuss iTunes specifically ? Perhaps
more experts hang out there.

I use an external search engine, using "discussions.apple.com" as
the domain to search in. The advanced search of the www.altavista.com
site, offers a search specific to a domain. The stuff people
are trying here, looks pretty complicated.

In this ZDNet article, they note that iTunes 8 installs all sorts of
odds and ends. The "GEARAspiWDM.sys is a file-system filter driver"
means Apple has added something to the CD/DVD stack, as a means
to do their burning. In the past, things involving Upperfilters/Lowerfilters,
is a major way of screwing up CD/DVD burning.

This company is probably the one, that provided the GEARAspiWDM file for Apple.

Thank you for the links! I think I may be on track of fixing my problem now.
Thank you. One other question, how do I see if my Windows is running 32 bit
edition or 64 and how do I upgrade?

Go to Help, About, but if you're asking, you have 32-bit.

And there is likely no reason at all for you to "upgrade" to 64-bit XP.

In fact, you can't "upgrade" at all, as the XP 64-bit version is available
only as an OEM package for use on a new system, and requires installing on a
clean hard disk - no Windows version at all. Then you need 64-drivers
specifically for the components and peripherals you have, and those are
often not available.

Why do you think you need to shift OS versions?

When I updated my iTunes it downloaded with the 64 bit and all of a sudden my
drivers were gone and I couldn't back it up and started getting a warning
signal. Otherwise I wouldn't have. If I delete my current iTunes and go back
to a non-64 bit iTunes do you think I would lose any of my purchases?

You need to ask Apple what happened.

A 64-bit iTunes version should not have installed on Xp *at all* as it
requires Vista.

The install should have failed just after launching, the instant it detected
that the OS wasn't 64-bit Vista.
