It's like I'm running two windows applications simulteneously

I'll be as brief as I can:
I did not like Windows ME so I had Windows 2000 I
supposedly had it removed and 2000 Professional added.

Now for the problems:

1. As I'm first booting up I see the screen that
says 'preparing to load windows 2000 professional. It
begins to load and then suddenly another screen pops up
with a completly different background that says 'loading
windows 2000 (this window does not say 'professional'). I
click out of it and 2000 professional continues to load.

2. When clicking into the internet (DSL) most of the time
my default home page pops up and things are fine. I am
able to access my favorites list that I have chosen.
Other times I will get a message that says 'your home page
is not available, so I click on the 'e' on the bottom
lefthand side of the monitor and another search engine
appears. When I click on my favorites column then, it is
almost devoid of anything I've entered. It's like I have
two different versions of everything.

3. When I try to email an attachment from my desktop, the
picture of my desktop that pops up in my attachment screen
is NOT the same as the desktop that populates when I first
boot up. The MS documents that are on my desktop that
first populates are not on the one that appears in my
attachment screen. Again, it's like I am using two
different systems.

I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY ADVICE ON HOW TO FIX THIS PROBLEM.
ALTHOUGH I HAVE USED A COMPUTER FOR YEARS I AM A NOVICE
WHEN IT COMES TO THINGS LIKE THIS.
YOUR HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!

If at all possible I would like my answer sent to my email
address because I am not used to using chat rooms and
might not be able to find my way back to this one. If that
is not possible, please email me and tell me how to get
back to this chat room.

Thanks!!!

Did you post this twice or is it me.
Not to worry.
I think it sounds like you may have two OS's, but you can tell when you boot
up.
Put a floppy in the A:\ drive and boot up when it stips and squawks, release
the floppy press the spacebar adn then F8 right after.
Your computer will stop with a screen that says Windows 200.
Does it have another choice?
Press enter to finish loading
