I'm trying to send a fax with multiple attachments but
I have a cable modem and I can't use it because I don't
know if my version of XP is 32 or 64 bit and I can't find
Word or Excel on this stupid thing and it will only let
me download pictures from the web in .bmp format and my
computer keeps restarting all by itself and there's a
stupid message but I can't remember what it said and I keep
getting these goshdarn messenger pop-ups and how the heck
can I format my disk, it was easy in 98? Why doesn't
Microsoft do something about this?
 
Yes you are full of problems.

first you have a 32bit copy of XP, although this has nothing to do with
faxing witha cable modem. you have to buy third party software from another
copy to do this.

Word and excel are NOT part of Windows XP nor any other version of Windows.
You are trying to save them from Internet Explorer

For the popup's you can just enable XP's built in firewall to stop them. -

These are all user mistakes and can be fixed by searching Google or reading
the thouands of posts right in this newsgroup. all the questions you have
just asked have been answer in the part 3 hours.

if you still wish to go back to Windows 98 you can but you will still have
problems (you dont seem to look for answers that well) Microsoft needs to
do nothing, but you could stand to do a few things.

needs 'voice-grade line capability'

go start/right click - my computer/general - tab/
note
if '64 bit' - it will say so
and you'll have some indication - costs many k-$ more
and it wouldn't matter - re/no faxing per above prev ans

ms word and/or excel - are separate s/w pkgs and
always have been - tho are incl in ms office pkg
tho some co's - stores - h/w mfrs - etc
may incl them in promos of comp's
just chk w/your source where you acquired it

then 'deselect - automatically restart'
go start/control panel/perf...and maint/system/
go advanced tab/startup and recovery - section/
go 'settings'/system failure - section/
deselect - 'automatically restart'/
click - 'ok'/
click - 'apply'/
and take it fr there

your win xp cd provides such options

WHAT?! Do you have any idea what a troll is?! A troll is someone who
deliberately posts false or misleading information, often crossposted to
many, totally irrelevant, groups. Hutch posts only helpful information (he
may not get it right 100% of the time, but he tries). If he makes a mistake,
it's a genuine one. May I suggest you do a Google search on basic Usenet
terminology.

I suggest you provide evidence of Hutch's 'trolling' or apologise to him. If
