It seems like I'm running two windows programs at the same time

I used to have Windows ME. I took it to a local shop and
asked them to change ME to something else. He downloaded
Windows 2000 professional.

Some months later I began to notice problems such as, when
I am in my email program and want to send an email with an
attachment located on my desktop (I have hotmail), I have
to open the attachment window, click onto 'desktop', and
the desktop view that shows up in the attachments window
IS NOT THE SAME AS THE ONE THAT DISPLAYS when I first boot
up. Some of the files are there, but the documents icons
that are normally there, are not.

Another wierd thing happens: As I'm booting up and I begin
to load Windows 2000 Professional suddenly everything
stops and I get a completely different window that
says,'Windows 2000'. I then click out of it and I can
finishing loading 'professional'.

Finally, I have noticed when I go into the internet (DSL)
if my 'home page' doesn't populate I have to click the 'e'
on the left hand side, bottom of my screen and another
search page will pop up. Once that happens when I click
my 'favorites' tab the list is different than it is when
my 'home page' populates like it should.

I realize I have given you three completely different
senario's, but they are all inter-related.

Could I please impose on someone to help me solve my
problem? I am a recreational user who doesn't know too
much about why computers do what they do, but I can follow
instructions if someone will provide them.

Please do me the favor of emailing your suggestions to me
rather than using a chat room as I have not visited many
of them and probably could not find this one again. If you
would rather use this format please email me with
instructions on how to get back to here, and how I would
find your response.

I REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR HELP!!!

Jim, don't worry.

You definitely need a good AVP adn a hardware or software firewall. If you
don't have them go to www.spycheckers.com adn look for things like AVG
antivirus, Zone Alarm firewall, and take a look at Ad-Aware and Spybot S&D
Try to get all of those and whatever else you think you need. Just don't try
crazy things or delete a lot of stuff.

Hackers love DSL,
They can use your computer for a SPAM server or use it to send out viruii,
or use it for a server to download DVD adn MP3's
Adn don't open any attaches from anyone unless you know them and KNOW they
sent it. If you get something from someone you know,, send them and email
adnask if they sent it. It doesn't hurt to send an email to those you know
with and attachment, if you send them an email telling them they are going
to be receiving it. I tell you this all out of learning from experience.
And itf my typos bother you , please overlook ti. I send thousands of poasts
and emails out per day adn I have fat fingers with the largest key board I
could find

good computing,
don
