I have a user who can not get and excell file to open. He got this file as
an email from another user in the office. Then he save the file to his
desktop. Then he double clicks on the file the to open it. It opens excell
but not the spreadsheet it self. He fowarded the email to me. I opend the
file no problem. I went to the original user to sent the email it worked no
problem there. He is using office 2000 on a Windows 2000 workstation. I
have no idea where to go with this. I am going to apply office service packs
but don't have much else for Idea's. Any advice would be greatly
appreiciated.

I have the same problem, in that .xls files will not open in Win Explorer,
but will open within Excel2003. I am using WinXP, file associations include
..xls and the 'ignore other applications' is unchecked.

Insights?

One thing I've found that sometimes works when I get "wonky" things happening when opening
files is the following
from Dave Peterson;

<startquote>
Close Excel and
Windows Start Button|Run
excel /unregserver
then
Windows Start Button|Run
excel /regserver

The /unregserver & /regserver stuff resets the windows registry to excel's
factory defaults.

If it doesn't help at least it doesn't hurt!
