It is a SERVER Problem, MS is working on it. Hopefully will have the
servers all up and running by Monday or Tuesday (Dec 12-13 '05). IT IS A
SERVER ERROR not a problem with your systems settings. The application cannot
detect a server so it automatically pops the messege thinking that the
connection is down. It is a SERVER Problem, MS is working on it.

Interesting that you say the application cannot detect a server.

It actually reports: "warning - could not connect to the internet"

This naturally leads one to conclude that an internet CONNECTION is not
available

However, I cannot believe that the software cannot distinguish between :
that an internet connection IS AVAILABLE, but that communication with a
remote server cannot be established !!

If you are manually trying to establish communication with a server - THEN
you can easily prove communciation - and the reason why it is failing with a
specific IP adress etc - so SURELY this can be determined within an automated
procedure ??

The fact is that this is shown as a WARNING error, IN RED, and has led to
many users mistakenly believing that something is wrong with their system.

The fact that this is a BETA version is no excuse.

This mis-reporting by a sofware package of a fundamenal error in
communication shows a lack of attention to detail in the software
development.
How many other simple things have not been covered either ??

This really isn't good enough.

Come on microsoft - If it is a server problem - then tell your customers.

perhaps if you would of looked around for the posting i made this morning i
had talked to a tech support person at microsoft...messege reads as follows///

"i just got off the phone with a microsoft tech support agent named "A.J."
and
he said that part of the problem is resolved with the servers and some but
not all can update. he said to show some patientce with it as it will update
but not to check so often as to not overload or bog down the servers. He
further stated that it is being looked at still and hopefully have the
servers all up and running by monday or tuesday (dec 12-13 '05). IT IS A

This phone call had taken place the morning of December 11 2005 @ 7:15 MST.
