Issues with HP Printer after upgrading to Vista

Last night I upgraded to Microsoft Vista. I have an Officejet 6310 All-in-One
printer and am having trouble printing. I have the printer connected to my
home network. When I send something to the printer, it will sometimes print
the first page and then half of the second before quitting. I have played
with the spooling settings and even tried printing directly to the printer. I
can't even print a test page without it quitting after getting half of the MS
logo printed. I have no problem printing from my XP computers that are
attached to the same network. Anyone have any advice for me?

Hi,

I had similar issues with a Kyocera laser printer.

I eventually found the Vista was not detecting the printers internal memory
correctly.

I manually set the driver up with the correct RAM settings and now it works
fine.

I hope this helps.

Do a search here and in the Print Fax Scan sections for your model
printer -- you will find a number of messages. One person said he had
used the XP drivers.

If you try this don't let the CD autoplay but find the autorun.exe or
setup.exe file, right mouse click on it and select XP for the
compatibility mode then run it.

That might help but I've not had to do it myself with either of my HP
Printers. Scanners are more of a problem.

If you use HP's Print Director there's some messages about that and a
document on the HP website on fixing it with IE7.

I am having the following problem with vista and the hp 6310 all in one:it
prints fine, both with usb and wireless connection, it scans when connected
through a usb, but it won't scan wirelessly. Can anyone help?

A lot of scanners will not scan over a network which might be your
problem?

Did it scan over wireless before you installed VISTA or is the whole
setup new?

In fact this is what HP says about the AIO6310:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?
docname=c00608729&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=1119598&rule=42858&lang=en

Bluetooth: using optional HP Bluetooth printing adapter (print
functionality only)

You are lucky that it is "TWAIN compliant interface" which means you
should have no problems setting it up to scan in VISTA with USB as I
think you have found.

Be a good idea to check HP for software and updates:

os=2093&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=1119598&lang=en

to make sure you have the Full Feature Software and Drivers (which will
not install correctly if you have the USB cable plugged into the PC
when installing the software.

Thanks for that. This is pre-installed vista and it has never scanned
wirelessly.I downloaded all of the drivers from the hp site with the usb
connected.

Did you do that telling it Run or Save when Windows asked?

If you used Save then it would not matter but might if you used Run
which installs from a temporary download folder or if you used Save and
then Ran the file from your download folder without unplugging the
cable.

If you find that some of the printing features are missing, like maybe
duplex printing or fit to page, then uninstall everything, delete the
printer icon and install again without the printer and its cable
plugged in.

I bought a new Gateway computer and Windows Vista cane on it. I have "no scan
options" on my HP 6310 aio. HP told me I needed a network. So I got a
wireless and the network cable to go with it that HP recomended. After 19
calls to HP and the patch disc that they sent me I still have "no scan
options" I think Windows Vista was a mistake on my part and I wish I had
never seen it. I need to scan documents to attorneys and I am dead in the
water. Can anyone offer some help I can understand? I am NOT a computer
wizzadr just a casual user.

You didn't say which version of Vista you have.. the Home versions do not
include the Fax & Scan software that was included with XP. The Ultimate,
Business & Enterprise versions have the Fax & Scan software.

The HP software for my 6110 has not been updated to run on Vista, so I
downloaded and bought VueScan
www.hamrick.com
You can try it free.

Mary Lou ... are you using the Vista software for the HP 6310? That should
have the option to scan from 'HP Solution Center' in the HP program. The
drivers in the Windows Vista operating system do not support button press
functionality on the printer.

Here's the HP site for the Vista software download:
http://tinyurl.com/ytxgdh

Take a look also at the 'Solve a problem', 'Scanner' link on the left hand
side of the above page. 'Needing a network' is BS ... it's a USB printer
and will work as such but, since you're now on a wireless network take a
look at the 'Wireless & Network' link in the above 'Solve a Problem' link
above. If all else fails, you can temporarily use 'MS Paint' ... File, From
Scanner or Camera', 'Scan'.

Thanks Dave and Fred,I will try and see what I can do. I will give a look at
the sites you two reccomended. My Vista software is Vista Preminum(sp)
I sure do wish there was an instruction book hat came with the computer and
the programs that Gateway loaded into it. They assume that everyone knows
what they do and I SURE do not. Thanks guys. Mary Lou

Make sure you check the HP instructions for installing their device --
with their USB connected devices you must not connect the USB cable to
the PC until either the installation procedure tells you to or until
[Finish].

Make sure you remove any HP software you may have tried to install and
have deleted any icons for the device in Control Panel / Printer and in
Fax & Scan.

After you have done that make sure that cable is not plugged into the
PC and start the installation again using that downloaded file referred
to by Right Mouse Clicking on the filename whereever you downloaded it
to and selecting Run as Administrator.

That should do it!

Did that. I installed and uninstalled so many times when I was talking to HP that I almost wore out the plug. HP had me buy a wireless and the internet cable to try and get the printer to scan. The cable is commected to the printer then to the router then to the modum then to the computer. I had a computer Geek come and he has both, the USB and the internet cables connected. I have contacted, HP, Gateway and Microsift and gotten NO help from any of them. You guys have offered more help than any of them. I thank you. Mary Lou

Mary said:

I don't know about USB and network at the same time but HP certainly
tell you not to connect USB and Parallel at the same time on printers
that have both.

Did you do as Fred said:

Here's the HP site for the Vista software download:

http://tinyurl.com/ytxgdh

Click on VISTA there and download that file -- Use the Save option and
not Run and note where the file downloads to and what its name is.

Please download the installation instructions at:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?
docname=c00609419&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=1119598&lang=en

Note what it says about not having the USB plugged into the PC and
about removing the yellow ethernet plug (did your geek do that?) but
ignore the instructions for starting installation since you are going
to use the file you downloaded.

Make sure you remove any HP software you may have tried to install and
have deleted any icons for the device in Control Panel / Printer and
in Fax & Scan.

After you have done that make sure that cable is not plugged into the
PC and start the installation again.

Find the file you downloaded and Right Mouse Click on this file, select
Run as Administrator on the context menu and OK your way out so that
the installation starts with that command.

There is no reason I can think of why you cannot get the scanner and
printer working using that technique IF the scanner software is
compatible with the new version of Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) that
is used in VISTA and differs from that uses in XP. I doubt that HP,
Gateway or Microsoft raised any of these points or techiques!
