When I installed Windows Vista Home Premium, an initial scan instructed me to
remove Alcohol 120, Kaspersky Anti Virus 6.0 and Roxio. I followed the
instructions and still have the following issues…
1) Alcohol 120 simply crashed my system. I had Blue Screen of Death until I
found System Restore after I booted off the Vista DVD. I called Technical
support who informed me that I have an OEM DVD therefore not entitled to the
free technical support offered for the first for 90 days!! (I bought a copy
of XP to get the upgrade certificate for Windows Vista Home Premium hoping it
would be shipped out before the launch date Jan. 30th. I received the Vista
DVD Feb. 27th why it’s OEM, I don’t know! )
2) Photoshop had to be reactivated.
3) Partition Magic will not work. Neither will Vista’s Disk Management, the
extended volume is grayed out on the C volume. I desperately need to extend
my C volume ASAP!!
4) I did reinstall Kaspersky Anti Virus 6.0 with no problems. After the
crash of Alcohol 120, I am afraid to reinstall Roxio Easy Media Creator.
5) I don’t know what this is. It’s a gray box that says “ fAIL.â€.
It shows up during start up and shutdown.
There are other issues as well; I am concerned with the ones listed above at
this time.

You are supposed to remove the indicated programs and "leave" them out.
There are likely compatibility problems with Vista. If you try to put them
in after Vista is installed, you "may" have problems. Get updated versions
that are known to be Vista compatible.

Issue 1: Alcohol 120 is not Vista compatible. That is why you were told to
remove it.

Issue 2: Nothing unusual here...it would be regarded as a new install.

Issue 3. Check the Norton website for Vista updates to Partition Magic.

Issue 4: Check the Roxio website for Vista Updates for your version...

All of the issues you have noted so far are issues with 3rd party
applications, not Vista. You need to make sure that the apps are Vista
compatible, or have patches from their websites that make it Vista
compatible. If neither of these apply, do not install it.

Issue 5: We are not mind readers. Most of us do not use crystal balls.
The word "fail" does not give enough information to determine what is
causing it.

I was told to remove Virus protection at instalation too!
You really need this type of product installed at all times!
I checked Norton already, and no mention of Partition Magic at this time.
Like I said, I desperately need to extend my C volume ASAP!!
I have a screenshot of the "fAIL" window, that's ALL the information I can
provide of that. May I E Mail it to you??
I am concerned also that I ended up with an OEM version of Windows Vista
Home Premium, This eliminates me from product support at this time!
 
depends on who you bought your xp from.
if for instance dell, then most likely they would send you and an oem copy of vista.

Acronis just released an update for Acronis Disk Director that is Vista
compatible.
 
I bought it from Tiger Direct.com They are a great warehouse!
The XP Media Center Edition appears to be "For Distribution with a new PC
only" AKA OEM?? I don't know. I'll have to battle it out with customer
service soon.
