Issues capturing video from Sony HC96

I've been trying to capture video from my Sony HC96 into WMM2 over USB2. The
video has been recorded in 16:9.

I selected 16:9 from the Options window in WMM2 and launched the video
capture wizard. The video settings were: 30fps, rgb24 and 320x240. I picked
DV-AVI as the format.

I was able to caputre the movie and save it to my HD. However, when I played
it on Media Player the video was shown "diagonally" (i.e., as if the
horizontal sync on an old TV had to be adjusted). I couldn't make up anything.

I then changed the output size on the video settings from 320x240 to
640x480. I repeated the whole process again. This time, though, the video
played clearly on Media Player. The problem now is that the video is not
smooth, it has short "pauses" throughtout it.

Any ideas on how to solve this? I'm not sure what to pick in the video
settings (e.g., frame rate, color space/compression and output size). I
initially used the default settings and then simply changed the output size...

I'd appreciate any help.
Thanks.

For some reason, when I used the "PapaJohn-WMV-for-DVD-NTSC-widescreen"
profile, I was able to use the 320x240 output size and the video came out
clearly.

I still don't know which output size to use, 320x240 or 640x480. Does it
impact the final video quality?

Thanks.

When you capture with a USB connection, the quality of the file will be
determined by the bitrate you can successfully capture at without dropping
frames or other data. It'll vary by the system so there's no one answer.

To get the best you can, free up hard drive space, do a disk defrag, reboot
the sytstem and have only the minimum of needed programs running....
disconnect from the internet and turn off you virus protection and screen
saver apps. Then do your capture session.

Start with smaller sized 320x240 sized files, and work your way up to higher
quality ones as you see that you are successful. Try to determine the sweet
spot for your system.
