Hi all,
I have a database that I built in Access 2002 which I split to have a back
end and a front end. I have set no securities on the databases since, as a
corporation, we use Active Directory to set up security on who can access
what files. I have linked the Access 2002 tables into my front end database
so SQL tables do not apply here. I have users who access this database both
in the office using Access 2002 and Access 2003 as well as remote users who
access it through Citrix as its own application. FYI Access on our Citrix
server is Access 2003. Finally we are all using Windows XP. The database has
a data entry form which is a tabbed form and has two tabs: the first is made
up from fields in a table, the second tab consist of two subforms which are
based on their own tables. The subforms are basically combo boxes joined to
the main table.
When my in-office users access the database, there are no problems. They can
add, edit, delete, search records in both tabs, no problem. When accessing
the database remotely, none of my users, except for me, can use the combo
boxes in my two subforms on my second tab. The subforms come up as empty
white boxes that can't be edited. However, they can edit the other data with
no issues. I have no issues with remote access I am guessing since I created
the database. This is when the other users access my front-end database with
the linked tables. I did a test and made a copy of the database with the
original tables, no links. What I found is that the remote users had no
issues accessing the subforms when accessing the database not involving the
linked tables.
I thought that I may need to set up security on both back end and front ends
afterall but I am not sure. The only reason why I thought it may be security
is because if I am logged into Citrix as one of my remote users and if I
navigate to the front end database through Citrix Access and just try to open
a table that one of the subforms are based on, I get a message stating that I
don't have the rights to access the table.
I am not sure what the issue really is. Has anyone heard of something like
this? Does anyone have any suggesstions? Sorry for being long-winded but I
wanted to make sure I described this issue the best I can. I have read
through some of the Access security documentation and honestly, it is very
confusing to me. I am not an expert at this, I just know enough to be
dangerous. If anyone can offer insight, I wouyld appreciate it.
Thanks,
Lauren
