Issue with newly multihomed server

I just added a second NIC to my W2k Server and am using it as a router. I
have two networks, a local 192.168 network and a publicly-accessible net.
The server is routing between the two. The original NIC was and is on the
public net. Ever since I installed the 2nd NIC, I have had problems.
When the system boots, I have full connectivity with all the PC's on the
network, on both nets. However, I have no Internet connectivity from that
server. To get Internet connectivity, I have to first disable the local net
connection in My Network Places properties, then re-enable it. Then the
Internet works. Can anyone tell me what is wrong and how to fix it, or
should I just stick the 2nd NIC in my Linux box and have done with it?

Thanks,

Jeff

Check the bindingorder in Network Connections, advanced, advanced and make
sure the internal nic is on top.
Check on your internal nic that the gateway is blanc.
DNS on both internal and external nic should point to your server-IP.
On your external nic only TCP/IP should be bound.

Thanks! That worked. I had the local nic at the top of the binding order
and had put the local IP in the gateway on the local NIC. Works now.

Great! Thanks for reporting back.

router.

Shoot, I have both NIC with default gateway on it and it still work. Now
thats weird. I aint going fix, if aint broke.

OK, Now I've got the system booting properly. Now I need for the servers on
the DMZ net to be able to communicate with the local net. To recap:

I've got two nets, a publicly-accessible DMZ net and a local 192.168 net.
On the DMZ net are two servers, a Linux box and a W2k Server box. The W2k
box is the router between the two. It does both routing between the
networks and NAT for the PC's on the local net.
When I open a command prompt on the W2k machine and do ping 192.168.0.x, I
get a response from the local PC (I have a static route on the W2k machine
back to the local net). However, the same ping fails when I do it on the
Linux box. On that machine, I also have a static route to the local net.
In both cases, the static route is something like this:
dest 192.68.0.0 mask 255.255.255.0 gateway <public IP of W2k router with
NAT>
As I said, this works fine on the W2k router/NAT machine but not on the
Linux box. Any Ideas?

Thanks,

Jeff
