Ok, I installed the OS...or tried to.

I'd install it in XP, then it would reboot after about 27% of 'expanding
files' and give me a boot configuration error (boot.cfm?) where normally
you'd see the boot menu.

This would happen no matter which partition/drive I targetted it to.

I did a Google and it said something about legacy or something or other.

What the heck is the reason it won't install?

That is about the point of the first reboot and suggests to me that you need
to supply hard drive controller drivers via the Load Drivers button. You
don't give any description of your system so I have to just guess.

Load Drivers button? I don't follow.

It's:

P4 3.4
IC7
WD 300GB on SATA channel 3
Sammie 40GB Primary IDE
Sammie 120GB Secondly IDE
7800GS

See the attachment.

I tried your suggestion, and got the same problem. Here is the exact error:

It starts out by saying Windows could not start, which could be down to a
recent hardware change.

Then below that:

File: \boot\bcd
Status: 0xc000000e
info: An error occurred while attempting to read the boot configuration data

Does this help at all?
