I chose to make a jpg a gif and put it in one of my pages and published it up
to my server. But when I open it in MIExplorer I get the red "x" and no
picture. I checked my internet options and am allowing pictures. Forgive me
if this is a frequently asked question but why can't I view a gif???
Thanks

Yes, this question is asked very, very often .... look through many
previous posts!

Hi Catt,

The reason for the red "X" is that the browser can not find the image file at the location specified in the HTML. To see where the
browser is looking, right click on the image, click properties and a dialog box will open with the details. Check to see if the
image file exists at the location specificed or is of the correct name.

If the reference is to a hard disk, file:///c:\images\myimg.gif, then it is because the page was opened in FP without a web being
open. When a web is opened then resources with the pages are made relative to the start of the web.

I changed it into a .gif in Corel photo paint, saved it and imported it into
my web as I usually do. I've worked with many jpg's but decided to change
this to a gif when I saw the size of the file was much smaller. So I figured
I'd speed up the page load by installing it as a gif file.

Hi, thanks, I did look at the properties and everything seemed ok. Finally I
changed the picture back to a jpg and re-published it. The reason why I did
the gif in the first place is because I was looking at the difference between
a gif and a jpg and saw that the gif is a much smaller file so I figured I'd
use it. I imported it into the web from my hard drive so there should have
been no issues.
Thanks for the reply. I'll research gif's in the archives here and see what
I could have done wrong.

Hi Catt,

Did you try Tools>"Recalculate Hyperlinks" and then republish the whole
site?
Usually will solve the problem of the red x's

If you still have problems please provide us a URL so we can look to see
what is going on.

Thanks Bob, I forgot about 'recalculate'. I'll try that on the next gif. I
changed the picture to a jpg because I had to get it done and move on to
something else.
