You have purchased a Prescott.

http://processorfinder.intel.com
http://processorfinder.intel.com/sc...cFam=483&PkgType=ALL&SysBusSpd=ALL&CorSpd=ALL

That processor draws 89W max at 1.4V, or about 64 amps. That is a
lot of current, and perhaps too much for the Vcore circuit on that
board.

http://www.asus.it/support/cpusupport/cpusupport.aspx

The 2.4A/533 Prescott is not listed there, and would probably need
an update to the BIOS to work, in addition to the possibility of
a powering issue.

The latest beta BIOS for P4S533 is 1011.001 supports family codes:
0F0A, 0F12, 0F13, 0F21, 0F23, 0F24, 0F27, 0F29

The family code on the SL7E8 Prescott is 0F33.

That doesn't guarantee it won't work, it just means there is no
microcode support. A 2.4GHz/533 with 512KB cache might be a
better purchase.

HTH,
Paul

Have you tried clearing the CMOS? I am not familiar with that processor but
have run my 1.8 over 2.8 on the same mobo.
