Hi All...Happy New Year...

From Work to Home RDC works fine (remote desktop in settings ticked) NB.
Home is XP Pro with ICF on.

Anyone know settings for VNC, looked at remote desktop settings and setup
tcp 5900 but isn't working. There is ISA server at work...could this need
some settings ?

TIA

Why bother? Really - RD works so much better than VNC that I don't see the
point.

TCP 5900 should be all that is necessary, but it's been a while since I've
used this--since it is unencrypted, it is better to come in via VPN, or use
an encryption plugin. UltraVNC has such a plugin, I've heard.

Hmm - ISA server does indeed need settings for both outbound and inbound
communication. I seem to have a packet filter called VNC outbound, custom,
outbound local ports all ports, remote port 5900.

I won't swear that this works, just that it is there and I recall being able
to do VNC outbound at some point!

Hi Bill

Wanted to do this so I can help family when they have probs, as you are
aware RDC disconnects them. Remote assistance is another option but wanted
to make it as simple as possible for missus and kids.

However, I was testing this from the server (did have packet filters on
server). I VNC'd over to my pc from server then VNC'd home (boy was that
confusing) and it worked.....

I should add though that did have realvnc installed, installed ultra and
that worked a treat...

Thanks

That's the way I support people at the office.... :)

What you did should work... When you attempted to connect, did you
add the proper display to the VNC program?

Hmm - Sounds like something to do with ISA server all right. I've had whole
networks working fine, only to find I bring up a web page at the ISA host
machine, and then I always forget the trick to fix that.

VNC gets a bit dodgy through multiple generations like that--if you can,
make the first link RD, then VNC. I frequently do RD through two machines
like that, and I've done VNC as well.
