If you run your mouse down the list of vunerabilities to just below the last
entry a phantom vunerability will be highlighted. This is an "explanation"
of Alexa and recommends a visit to the alexa website for "further
information" which will enevitably give you a dose of spies on your
computer.

The language used in the help window smacks of a hacker too?

Am I being paranoid about this app or is all really well.

Thanks
Trevor.

I've just been there and only got a session cookie. From their privacy
policy:

If you are visiting the Alexa website (alexa.com), we collect the
following information: the full Uniform Resource Locator ("URL")
of the Web page from which you came to alexa.com; your Internet
Protocol ("IP") address, which may include a domain name; the
date and time for each page you view; the name of and information
about any advertisement that brought you to the Alexa website;
searches you perform, links you click on; and computer and
connection information such as browser type and version,
operating system, and platform. We also transmit cookies to your
computer so we can track the pages of our website that you view
and the order in which you view them.

Seems reasonable to me.

I dunno, I don't use XP Anti-Spy. But not all hackers are bad.

Not being a user, I can't evaluate that. But just linking to alexa.com
does not seem so bad to me.

If it's spyware, it's well executed, as both ad-aware and spybot say it's
ok on my machine ;-). A small program (88k), it provides a shortcut to
various XP options that it deems problematic. Nothing you couldn't do
yourself, with enough reading and rooting around. I'd recommend it,
especially on a new installation. XP likes to keep track of everything,
and it likes to call home.

Hello,

for me it shows something about ms media player. Seems to me, it
shows some (depending on operating system?) entry not listed
visibly. I know, that entries differ depending on windows version.
And some Alexa functionality is included in Internet Explorer,
maybe AntiSpy allows you to deactivate (as AdAware and Spybot
do also). I removed Alexa on my system long time ago, maybe
therefore it's not shown in AntiSpy.

But I don't see any reason to believe AntiSpy being spyware.

Thorsten
