Is Word included?

I was told that Microsoft XP Professional 2002 version included Word,Excel, &
Powerpoint? Is that true, I truly hope so cause I just purchased it over the
internet. Can someone verify that it is true. The sooner the better so I may
cancel my order in the event it is not.

It id totally untrue. No version of Windows has ever included Word,
Excel, and PowerPoint. These 3 programs are all part of Microsoft
Office and are sold under that name or as separate programs.

Part of the confusion comes from the fact that in some instances
Microsoft used the same "family" name for both a Windows version and
an Office version. Thus in recent years there was both a Windows
2000 and an Office 2000; and following that there was Windows XP and
Office XP. But they were separate.

Also sometimes a new computer will come a lot of bundled OEM versions
of software provided by the computer manufacturer. Thus many new Dell
computers come with a preinstalled short term trial version of
Microsoft Office.

No, the XP operating system does not include Word, Excel, etc. Was it the
operating system that you purchased, or did you purchase Microsoft OFFICE XP
Professional.....if it was Office XP that was purchased, then yes, it would
include Word, Excel, etc.

If you mean Microsoft Windows XP Professional: it does not include other
products such as Microsoft Office in any form or fashion. It is merely the
operating system upon which one can run other applications such as Microsoft
Office XP Professional - which would include the items you referenced.

However - If you want Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc... You might be
better off choosing a version that is not 5+ years old. Office 2003?
Office 2007? Those suites (different versions of them) contain the products
you listed and more. Microsoft Office XP is now a couple of generations
behind.

No it is very defintely *not* true. You were told that by someone who has no
idea what he's talking about.

Neither Windows XP (whether Professional or Home), nor any other version of
Windows, has ever included Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, or any other
significant application software. Such programs have to be bought, either by
themselves or as part of Microsoft Office.

I'm afraid some lied to you.

Neither the Microsoft Office application suite, nor any of its
individual component applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access,
Outlook, etc.), have _ever_ been "part" of *any* Windows operating
system. They are, and always have been, separate applications, that
must be purchased and installed separately.
