I just installed Windows XP pro. on my computer. It used to have Windows ME on it. Anyway my burner software that came on my computer is way old. Do I need to install it on xp, or does windows xp even need it ? And does anyone know where there might be free burner software? I used to have Roxie but it came on my computer (compaq) when I bought it. I don't think I even have a hardcopy.

Thanx, Tammy

Older versions of some CD Burning software do not work on XP. Easy CD
Creator 5 will work but you need to patch it with the latest patch first.
Earlier versions will not work at all.

XP has built in burning software but it quite limited. It will treat a
CD-R/W as if it were a CD-R with the exception that you can erase the CD-R/W
but you can not delete individual files from the disk. By default XP's
burning capability should be turned on by default. You can turn it on or off
and change recording speed by right clicking your CD Writer icon in My
Computer windows and selecting Properties->Recording Tab. You should disable
the built in recording function if you decide to install third party
software.

I have more info and links at this page at my site

Yes there are freeware burning programs that work fine with XP (remember to
disable the built in burning software if you use these)

If you are using the drag and drop feature on windows XP you can delete
files you put on just like a floppy, using the default software in XP.
