I have heard talk lately that Windows Server isn't as Stable, Secure or
Reliable as a Linux Server. I don't know what to believe, so I thought I'd
ask people that know Windows Server, and see what they think? Is Windows
Server just as good as Linux? What do you think?

Your software is only as stable as your hardware.

Windows server is just more userfriendly. It's easier to
admin, easier to troubleshoot.

Now with Linux, with an inexperienced administrator, hell
on earth...

Correct me on this: You need about double the amount of
time/experience spend on Linux to be able to make the OS
equally secure/stable as you need for Windows.

In other words, all revolves around costs. The Linux
techie will be more expensive, for his more years of
experience and more specialized work.

The software may be free/less expensive...

Wait and see. Novel just bought SuSE for more than $200m.
They've always been good with databases and security and
stability. Let's see what they do with SuSE...

Both OS's work well. Both OS's are successfully used on millions of
machines. Both OS's require people who are informed, trained,
qualified, and enabled. It's no longer a debate worth pursuing. The
choice of one vs. another depends on lots of things, and frankly, isn't
that big of a deal anymore. For most, the decision will be clear. If
not clear, then do a study an make choice based on total economics.

Almost an AMD versus Intel debate.

Point is on both systems you can load Solitaire and play
it while installing a few service packs and updates.

Biggest question probably is can your current IT
Department/Support company handle Linux? And if not, is it
cost effective enough to change IT support company? All
depends obviously on how big the solution needs to be as
well.

But I think Rob gave the answer.
