Hi All,

Does anyone know much about Lindows (Linux Windows OS for $60 US)? Is this
the beginning of the end for Microsoft?

What will happen to all those VB and Dot Net developers like me?

Cheers
Stuart

Paranoia is premature. It's not as if you can't learn other programming
languages. And microsoft would have to fall pretty far before windows
dies. Barring major disaster, MS will be around for another decade at
least (most likely much longer).

In 5 years time I don't want to have to learn Java and with no Java
experience I'd have to compete with ppl with with 5-10 years Java
experience. Doh!

Microsoft is just another company trying to make its way in this world - if
only people would stop trying to kill it.

If Microsoft cannot make its software superior to the competetion, it
deservs to die. So does any onter company that makes an inferior product.
The flipside, of course, is if MS makes a better product, then it'll be
around for a long time.

I think you're being unduely paranoid about your future job prospects. I
know that VB is a very strange beast of a language, but don't think you're
incapable of learning another language because of that. Also, it's
perfectly possible to be hired into a job for which you have no
experience. It's happened to me twice. Once for Neuron C (which I'd never
even heard of before, it's for embedded controllers), another for Delphi.
Just because George W's mismanaging the economy now, and no one has jobs,
does not mean that the market won't improve once he's gone.

Greetings --

I don't think you have anything to worry about. Industry analysts
estimate that Linux will overtake Apple's desktop market share (@ 3%)
in 18 to 36 months. At that rate, Microsoft won't even notice Linux
as a business threat for another 30 or 40 years. Could that be why
Linux makers are begging for cash donations?
