Yes.

The only thing I haven't sussed is forward only data reader results
from a dataset sproc, but it must be there.

The English version has been released today.

Does anyone know where you can actually purchase vs2005 ? None of the
online stores I've contacted know anything about it, and Microsoft's
links for purchasing VS2005 all point to VS2003 pages. Anyone have it
actually available for purchase at this time?

But to me the important question is: From where can I purchase Visual Studio
Professional 2005 upgrade?

The only two vendors whom I found offering it had it not being available for
some time:
Amazon around Nov 28 and Programmer's Paradise around Nov 17.

I think the definition of release has been reworked by Microsoft to mean
something other than what it means to me. Possibly they mean it has been
released to manufacture.

I didn't see the word "purchase" anywhere. I downloaded them for
free.

Well I assume that Sam wanted to buy one of the other versions than the
Express edition.

Ah! The reference went back a few messages in the thread... sorry...

I am still a little surprised to see Microsoft giving away free
copies. I am guessing that the "express" versions are dumbed down
pretty significantly. I have not yet played with them, but if they
allow you to do real work (ASP.NET in particular, I'm hoping), it
might be nice to have on my laptop when I'm away from my main
development computer, so I can work on some hobby websites I have.

A better question is when will SP1 for VB.Net 2005 and Framework 2.0 be
released..that's when it's really ready for use!

William,
Sounds like you found the same references I did....both indicating weeks
(several) away from availability. The most confusing thing was MS's site
having "how to buy" and "buy directly from MS" links that say VS2005 but
point to MS2003 pages.

An email to MS's support address obtained a response as follows:
"....I suggest you to contact our Sales and Information Team. They have
the expertise to solve these type of issues. You can speak to them over
the phone at (800) 426-9400. Their normal business hours are Monday
through Friday, 6.00 am to 5.30 pm Pacific Time."

I have not had an opportunity to call myself, but I'd suggest that
anyone else having trouble locating purchasing info do so themselves.

well

You could buy yourself a MSDN membership this includes Visual studio 2005
and much much more :-)

So here is the newest information, direct from microsoft. I contacted
the presales department, and spoke with a representative. They provided
a link:

http://www.microsoft.com/products/i...66a97fc13&type=ctg&sortcolumn=0&sort=0&page=3

This link shows VS2005, all variants, as *on backorder*.

Now, in my opinion, having a product on backorder since the day that it
supposedly announced as "shipping" equates to *late*. All the talk about
the November 7th date meant nothing because of this. It's a little
thing, but still aggravating none the less.
