Who needs to check the link. Ubuntu was written by geeks for geeks who
can't get laid. Ubuntu won't run any of the popular software programs
out there.

If you are poor or a geek, then Ubuntu is just right for you.

If you want to do real work, you need a real OS. Windows.

Oh dear. I hope this is not a measure of the kind of abusive stupidity
to come. The poster asked a reasonable polite question and deserves a
reasonable polite answer. Please go away.

I use XP, Vista and various flavours of Linux. The opinions below are
just that, opinions. And of an ordinary user.

For the ordinary user, Windows (either) is still probably the best bet,
because now and then you'll find some things you want to do that Linux
doesn't do automatically, and you'll have to ask for help. Windows comes
with a massive help file. Ubuntu doesn't so you'll have to ask for help
on the forum. People are very helpful but often the advice assumes
knowledge on your part, which if you had it you wouldn't need to ask the
question. Also they are very fond of the command line, which is not
helpful to someone new to Linux.

You may even find that it won't even run on your machine. Last version
of Ubuntu would not recognise my wireless adaptor nor drive my screen at
anything better than 800x600. The current version works out of the box
though.

Now and then you find something that you absolutely must have Windows
for, or a web site that only works in Internet Explorer

If you want to try Ubuntu I'd say go for Linux Mint instead. It is
Ubuntu but the interface is more like Windows, and more things work out
of the box. The interface can be readily modified to put things where
you like them.

On the other hand you can forget about running a virus checker every
day, and defragging regularly and Linux will run more smoothly on an
older PC with lower spec. MY XP is constantly churning away (Athlon
2400+ with 1.75 GB memory).

Try Linux if you're interested, but keep Vista.

Lastly, you can make your Ubuntu look like XP. This is good as "trainer
wheels" as stuff is easier to find and feels familiar. Google XPGnome.

Hope I'm not feeding a troll ;)

Software for Linux is free but there's less of it. If you try it and
later uninstall it it won't leave stuff that messes up your system

PS: A lot, but not all, of Windows software will run on Linux using an
emulator called Wine. Microsoft Office does run OK.

Everyone knows that Ubuntu is a piece of SHIT that NOBODY needs to use.
Anyway this is the vista.general forum.

Ever hear of USENET? Sorry. Can't go away. Just FYI.

The truth!

15 million users say you're full of shit (again).
LIAR! That is spamming ad you do it everyday and you're a linux troll.
Stop lying!

Suggestions for alternatives to the little piggy called Vista are most
certainly on topic. Your insults, lies, profanity and animal sex
accusations are off topic, troll.
Because your weak, fragile, arrogant ego won't let you.

Um, I wasn't talking about myself, dumb ****.
