I have not heard anything about this? Where are you getting your
information?

Its a Europ thing. The EEC council have been looking into unfar
practices. but the curent chip would not come under this.

"It's a Europe thing. The EEC council has been looking into unfair

(for us non-euros)

And to expand on this....

This issue was raised with the UK government in July...

According to....

http://www.parliament.the-stationery-office.co.uk/pa/cm200203/cmhansrd/cm030
716/text/30716w21.htm

which says....

<big snip>

The refill industry has raised with us concerns related to existing
technology applied to some of the goods currently sold, which prevents
reuse. However, the WEEE Directive does not affect this. The European
Commission has made clear that printer cartridges do not fall within the
scope of the WEEE Directive, but considers that forthcoming EU legislation
on eco-design may address the issues here. The Government agree with this
assessment. In the meantime, if the spread of new technology specifically to
prevent reuse begins to impinge significantly on the independent refill
market, I would want to consider what additional action might be warranted.

Cheers

How about taking it a step farther: Require printer manufacturers to
support using anyone's ink---as long as it meets an open spec.

Can you imagine Toyota, jaguar, Mercedes, etc. installing gadgets that
disabled the car if you did not use their tires, oil, brake pads,
etc.???

While we're waiting, note that chip resetters, replacement chips,
refill kits, etc. etc. are readily available.

wish I knew where. In Oz, I have simply been told no refills.

I've heard this is a recycling effort in Europe to be implemented next
year. Damn good idea if you ask me!

OK. I guess the obvious question is "Has anyone tried these and do
they work?"
