Is trial copy of Word Perfect 12 a hoax?

My daughter appears to have very recently downloaded a trial version
of Corel’s Word Perfect Version 12, Serial no. WS12WTX-9999998-UYR,
registered in her email address. However, in my user account on
Windows XP SP2 I now have several old documents which I cannot access
and which have the phrase "WPEntrust Signed Document" under the name
of the document. There is also a folder called Corel User Files which
contains two files: WT12US.HST and WT12US.UWL. There is also a new
file which I did not create called "Upgrade Joke.wps" which also has
the phrase WPEntrust Signed Document underneath it. When I try to
open one of the affected documents a box comes up telling me I have a
trial copy and I can continue with the evaluation, purchase the full
program, or activate with my serial no. and code no. When I click on
"continue" I get an error message saying that the file "as
specified in the execution parameter cannot be opened" and if I then
click on OK I am taken to a blank document which has listed under
"File" two filesWT12US.HST and WT12US.UWL as the last two documents
I have looked at. I have run Trendmicro’s Housecall but it found no
evidence of a virus. I haven’t dared click on the "Purchase" or
"Activate" options, as I don’t know what might happen, and having
just got rid of the Fatso.B worm I am pretty nervous about this!

Can you please advise?

They have always given full old copies of their software away. And give plenty of trial versions too.

Hey,

Yes, Corel has trial versions available.

For the Corel program that you are having, why not you try to ask Corel
Support about it? You are now asking in a Microsoft Newsgroup, which
specializes in MS products and software.

More info:
Free trial:

Email Corel Support: http://support.corel.com/
Corel's Newsgroup:
http://support.corel.com/scripts/rightnow.cfg/php.exe/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=754345

Please have your question asked at the correct place.

Thanks! :)

Whoops! Sorry! I just assume that since my computer runs Windows XP,
I can ask questions about anything that appears to affect the smooth
running of it!!! I’m going to ring Corel this afternoon and ask them
what their trial program has done to my computer. The Upgrade Joke
is a red herring - I worked out it was an old file of mine.

Thanks.
