I read today in my newspaper (De Standaard in Belgium) that
1. Microsoft will bring out a new Internet Explorer (IE7)
This version will protect Windows XP users against spyware
First version available in June
2. Microsoft announced that a own spyware application will be
available later this year
Free for registrated Microsoft users
3. An own antivirus application is announced
If this is true ... this is really good news ...
Wait and see ...
Willy

It is true that the software architect in charge decided that
IE7 will precede Longhorn and that antispyware will be free.

.
I don not believe that it will happen this year Billy
(don't you know MS by now ?)
Let's discuss again in 2007 if the gods are with us !

Yes, there will beta version of Internet Explorer 7 available by summer,
AntiSpyware will be free to everyone, although there will be highend version
available to businesses at a cost plus an Enterprise Edition for Central
Management.

Minor quibbles (hope that word translates OK--means very slight nuances of
disagreement!)

IE7 will be available for Windows XP Service pack 2 customers.

An antispyware application containing the elements present in this beta will
be available at no additional cost to registered Windows customers. (not
clear exactly which versions of Windows, but I wouldn't recommend that WinMe
folks get their hopes up.)

This is what the press release has to say on point three:
---------------------------------------------------
Gates expanded on Microsoft's recently announced plans to acquire security
vendor Sybari Software Inc., which provides solutions to help protect
messaging and collaboration servers from malicious software. Gates noted
that when the acquisition is closed, Microsoft intends to ship a Microsoft
engine, based on the GeCAD technology acquired in 2003, as one of the
multiple scanning engines supported by Sybari's flagship Antigen software.
Gates further noted that the Microsoft engine would also be integrated into
a broad consumer offering by the end of this year.

I absolutely agree that this is really good news!
