Is this really a Deterrent

he's probably made 10 times that, he still knows how to do it and he knows where to get the parts, so i doubt it will be long before hes doing it again

The law is an ASS.
On November the 3rd 1959 I threw a 1p banger [firework], which was first thrown at me, so I thought I would return it to the owner BANG.

Unknown to me a police officer saw what happened and I was promptly arrested, I asked him why not the other person, he replied never mind about him you were closer to me? I then had to appear in court under the explosives act, I explained what had happened and the magistrates where undecided, they then deliberated for an hour, subsequently they found me GUILTY, remember I was at the tender age of 15, had never been in trouble with the law before or since [my how times have changed] had no parents, was due to start work the following week.

The outcome was a £25.00 fine you may think that is not a lot of money?

My first wage was £1.6s [£1.30p] by today’s standards.

I vowed then that I would never pay the fine; I was arrested again and appeared in the same court but with different magistrates who overturned the conviction on the grounds of. Quote: the police prosecution service were unjustified in the pursuance of such a case in as, the amount of time and money wasted on such a trivial offence, and to concentrate on more important matters also why did the police officer not arrest the original offender, as he was to blame in the first instance Unquote.

I was awarded full compensation for being made a scapegoat as the police officer was in no fit state? to pursue the other boy, the award £2.10s [£2.50p]

Today one can get away [literally] with murder.??????????

Another instance showing how todays legal system is a total mockery!!

Hi

At the risk of appearing controversial, when a court decides to punish an offender with Community Service it is a direct alternative to custody and is at the higher end of the punishment tarrif. I am guessing that person x had little if anything in the way of previous convictons. The prison community is so overcrowded that the courts are quite cicumspect about which offenders they imprison.

However, there are serious penalties for people not completing their Community Service Order and if that happens, the offender is returned to court and breached and will be resentenced. Same with folks on CS that don't turn up. Custody would then be a very real possibility.

I am not saying that I agree with the above, just explaining how it works!!!

Gabs x

wow!

its a very common thing to do in chipping xboxes
so many ppl doing it
its a big business

i bet lots of people wen they hear of this story will get scared!

At a computer show my brother attends there are "leave-it-n-we'll-chip-it" stalls ... I wonder if they know the "Law"?

Anybody got that geezer's number..... ;)

j/k

£750.00 fine and 140 hours community service? Sounds about right to me.

Did he hurt anybody? Rape anybody? Murder anybody? Nope, he just a thief, sort of.

Who did he hurt? Microsoft, it seems to me.....

Community service

mmm, Community Service.

This bloke lives in my neck of the woods. I know for a fact that there are plenty of people who are desperate to learn basic computer skills. He must be a reasonably clever bloke to chip X boxes effectively. What about him teaching M Soft Office to those people who have been made redundant or want to get on etc?

LOL Can u imagine teaching the above to newbies for 16-20weeks. That will make him think twice.

It is either that or get CS people to mow the grass at roundabouts or paint playground equipment like they used to!. Round here this is done by council staff on Sundays- think about the overtime rates. CS could save alot of money off our council tax!
