Is this possible?

Hi all, I was wondering, how long do you guys think it will be before
viruses, worms, trojans, etc propagate themselves through WiFi and bluetooth
systems instead of e-mail, etc? This leaves the possibilty of say, your
system being hacked through your central heating controller or washing
machine. Is this scenario possible or am I becoming paranoid?
Thanks for any thoughts you may have.

Might wake up one day to find the house at 90 degrees and a £10,000 delivery
of groceries from Tesco waiting at the door :-)

Whoever they are are posting booby trap worms/viruses in ngs. Automatic
downloaders may load worms/viruses thusly.

All bluetooth and "WiFi" (god I hate that name) are, is carriers for a
networking connection. Nothing magical. Nothing special. Nothing exciting.
Lets get that out of the way right now.

Viruses already spread via networking connections. Viruses and other malware
typically neither know or care about the hardware layer of a network
connection they transverse.

(But why would your washing machine be connected to your home network?)

Woody Allen, you should be reading this!

What a great idea for a comedy film script. :-)

With online banking and a washing machine, think
of the possibilities. ;o)

Money laundering? <G>

For the first time in 7 years of being online, I have been truly compelled
to LOL!!!

Oh, actually, no, it's the second time... the first time was that email
containing a reply to a newsgorup about blokes' toiletry habits (esp, urinal
related concepts)...

The main consumer benefits are that you have full access to your
digital appliances in the office or when using your mobile phone -
so you can turn your washing on, download a Thai chicken curry
Microwave recipe or cool your home down at the touch of a button.

If I can do all that then, I assume, so can someone else, potentially.
Turning that stuff on or off inappropriately could be disastrous.

Perhaps it depends on whether you trust the owner of that shop, given
past events?
