I have lost desktop icons and cannot right click the desktop.

Can anyone help with this or is it insoluble?

Thank you

Most everything is solvable. A Windows repair might do the trick.

What were you doing last before this happened? Strange things can occur if
you download and install software you aren't familiar with.

The more details you give the easier it will be for someone to help you.

I gave all of the details that I know, mainly, just what I said about the
problem, which is scant little.

I don't recall when this occurred or what precipitated it.

Yes it is "insoluble" as it doesn't dissolve in liquid....

I expect you meant "unsolveable".

I hate to correct people's use of language in newsgroups, but since you did,
and incorrectly, let me point out that if you would take the trouble to look
up the word "insoluble," you would find that it has both meanings.

No, Andrew, I meant exactly what I said: insoluble.

Now, run along and try to find a dictionary.

Also, unless you can help, try to refrain from your clutter.

Can you access the start menu? If so you might try downloading
TweakUI and there's an option there to fix icons.

Look on the right hand side.

Or you might try a fix provided at Kellys Korner

Item #4

Also the icons can be hidden but since right clicking on the desktop
doesn't get you a menu I don't know how to unhide them if that were the cause.

Gls,

Thanks for the reply and suggestions. Sadly, I have already tried them and
to no avail.

Sorry, but my knowledge/use of the word "insoluble" differs from yours,
hence my reference to not dissolving in water - obviously I thought you'd
misused the word.

In US English, you're probably correct; but in UK/Australian English
"Unsolvable" the word "insoluble" is generally used in the context of "not
dissolvable" hence my comment.

Actually my correction was supposed to be a joke.

I certainly don't claim to be an expert on UK/Australian English, but I did
take the trouble to check the OED as well as US dictionaries. They all said
essentially the same thing.

Actually my correction was supposed to be a joke.

In that case, my apologies. It was over my head.

Apology accepted. Thank you.

It looks like the explorer.exe process has crashed or been killed.

Try : Ctrl+alt+Suppr,
File, new task ... type 'explorer' (without quotes), press enter.

Is the desktop back ?

(note that one can kill the desktop on purpose,
eg : if you need all the memory avalable)

Thanks for the input Phil.

I don't know what "Suppr" is but I did restart explorer and it is the same.

No, I didn't turn off the desktop.

CTRL + ALT + SUPPR: Closing of a program allows.
CTRL + ALT + SUPPR (twice of continuation): Rebooter the computer allows.

(What happened to insoluable? :O) I did a Google search for that command
and looks like suppr is French.

The appreciate is yours.
